Why is it necessary for most of us to have a new year or a new month or even a new week to get motivated to reach our goals? It is such a mental game. Why can’t starting on a Tuesday or starting on January 30th be just as a good of a start? Well, I sure in heck don’t have the answer, but I am glad tomorrow is February 1st. It just seems like the perfect time to get a fresh restart! There are certain things (such as fitness) I don’t feel like I got off to a great start on Jan 1st. However, after three poor months of debt payoff, I am happy with what 2016 brought right away when it comes to finances! I would say we started off with a bang.
So how much debt did we pay off in January?!
Drum roll please…..
Now, I have to say $2500 of that wasn’t really income. I mean it was, but it wasn’t. When I enlisted in 2012 I signed up for the College Loan Repayment Program. The military agreed to pay off $10,000 of my federal loans. After taxes, it was $7500 which was split over three years. On Jan. 4th the last payment of $2500 was posted directly to my loan. Even without that we had a pretty large payoff of $5728.09. I tell ya what, you can make some good money off of PCSing (moving to a new duty station) if you play your cards right and don’t spend it all. In a later post I will break down our income to show you what we make just from moving.
Our normal income is still working itself out. Unfortunately this isn’t going to be a monthly recurrence. We will take what we can when we can though!
If you have lost motivation to reach your goals already, remember tomorrow is a new month, a new day and a new week. It doesn’t get much better than that. No excuses! Get out there and get ‘er done whatever it may be. I will be hitting the gym, watching my spending, and reading more personal financial blogs for inspiration.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂
